Sarvato Bhadra Chowk

Sarvato Bhadra Chowk - City Palace
Jaipur’s City Palace was, and still is, home to the royal family of Jaipur. The palace is intricately decorated across different wings, and while it is open to tourists, it is well and truly a private residence, that is bustling with the activity of all the staff who keep it running smoothly. Pictured here is the Sarvato Bhadra chowk, a courtyard of a private audience hall where Maharaja conducted his meetings with his most trusted of advisors, and where festivals were celebrated. On the left are on display are a couple of silver Gangajalis – silver jars that were used to collect the sacred waters of the Ganges. These jars are the largest silver objects in the world, each made from 14000 Silver Coins issued by Kapatdwara treasury of Jaipur State in 1894. Each jar holds 4091 litres of water. In 1902, the Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh II took these jars, filled with Gangajal (the water of the Ganges) on his voyage to England to attend the coronation ceremony of Edward VII.
