The Diwan-e-Am at the Red Fort

Lal Qila Diwan-e-Am
The Red Fort in New Delhi is one of the most historic buildings in India. It is here that the Indian national flag was raised for the first time in Independent India.

Consutrction started in 1638 under the reign of the emperor Shah Jahan, and was completed in 1648. It was home to the Mughal Emperors ever since, before being lost to the British East India Company.
The Diwan-e-Am was the hall of public audience – the court where the emperor would grant audience to his subjects. It the first in a number of points of interest inside the fort.
