Jaipur’s Jantar Mantar

Jaipur's Jantar Mantar
There are a couple of these around India, and they are the oldest observatories in the world. Life in India has a lot to do with what is written in the stars.
The Jantar Mantar in Jaipur is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and is a collection of architectural astronomical instruments. It was built by Maharaja Jai Singh II at his then new capital of Jaipur and is modeled after the one that he had built for him at the Mughal capital of Delhi.
There are 5 such facilities which he built at different locations (including the two at New Delhi and Jaipur). The Jaipur observatory is the largest and best preserved of these.
